RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
The program is modeled after the family unit. House rules share many of the same expectations that may be found in any healthy family system. The choice of staffing also reflects a family model with staff. There are also support staff who assist the Resident Managers in carrying out their tasks. There is an extremely low staff turnover rate which engenders an atmosphere of consistency, cohesion, and stability within the program. Consistency provides the basis for the establishment of trusting relationships, and predictability counteracts the fear and instability so often experienced by the girls in their prior home settings. Independent living skills such as menu planning, cooking, cleaning, job searching, and banking are woven into the daily living of the residents.
There is a profound appreciation of the life story of each girl and for the patterns of behavior that got created from her past. There is a firm belief that through deep listening, talking through of these patterns or behaviors, and modeling of staff; insight and healing can take place. Couched within this therapeutic approach is also the committed belief in unconditional love, positive growth, and hope for the future. The expectation for residents is that it is possible to move beyond the hurt and develop ones strengths and talents. Ideally, the girls will then contribute their unique gifts to society at large.
